Last night, while having way too much fun at the grocery store - seriously - on a whim, we decided to pick up a growler from Rohrbach, a brewery residing in nearby Rochester, NY. It was a roll of the dice - we both love scotch ales, but we've also had the unfortunate experience of buying ones that just didn't cut the mustard.
After getting sacks of groceries away, I poured the man a fresh pint - dark, reddish brown with a creamy, near-white head. In all honesty, I wasn't in the mood for a beer last night (perish the thought!). However, after I took in the malty, molasses-tinged aroma, I just had to have a sip. And another. And another.
Hell, I had to pour myself a pint!
Rohrbach's Scotch Ale, by far, is the best scotch ale I've ever tasted. Each sip offers a smooth, full-bodied, creamy experience. My taste buds were treated to the heavy presence of caramel malt and sweet yeast, with an ever-so-slightly hoppy finish. With an ABV of 7.8%, it's a great way to warm up a bit on a chilly, wintry night.
This was most definitely one chance I am glad we took. Think I'll have to pick up another growler tonight!
