Sunday afternoons are a perfect time to enjoy a light buzz, in my opinion, before heading back to a full week at work. You're back home relatively early and ready for a relaxing evening, yet you still have a day kicking back with friends, music and a few pops. In all honesty, I feel like spending my Sunday afternoons in this fashion makes the weekend feel a hell of a lot longer than just 2 days.
Most Sundays, I spend a good part of the afternoon at my favorite watering hole, Staples (in Allentown) while my other half tends bar. I usually bring my laptop along and play around with new website ideas, digital manipulations and the like. My drinks of choice tend to stay in the Guinness or whiskey-and-tea range, but sometimes, especially if something new has arrived, I'll switch it up a bit.
Last Sunday I had the pleasure of trying a shot of Van Gogh Double Espresso Vodka. Not only is the taste of espresso infused, but the caffeine is as well. I've got to say - it is one tasty shot! I worked at SPoT, a local coffee shop through my college years, so I'm no stranger to straight-up espresso. Van Gogh captures the flavor perfectly, with a hint of vodka-taste as it goes down. At 70 proof, I was surprised I didn't taste it more, but of course coffee tends to overtake other flavors rather well.
If a straight shot of espresso vodka isn't quite your cup of tea (or coffee, for that matter), try it in this recipe, which I found on the Van Gogh website.
Almond Cappuccino
1½ oz Van Gogh Double Espresso Vodka
½ oz amaretto
1 oz Starbucks Cream Liqueur
Pour ingredients into cocktail shaker and add crushed ice. Let stand for five seconds. Shake vigorously for five seconds. Strain into martini glass.
